The Basics

What Masking Protects

Threads, screw holes, bearing bores, sealing surfaces and machined mating faces all need to stay bare so parts still fit and function after coating. We mask them with high-temperature tape, plugs and stencils that survive the cure oven.

Two-Tone and Selective Finishes

Masking isn't only protection — it's how we deliver two-tone wheels and selectively coated parts. Want gloss-black barrels with a machined face, or spokes a different color than the rim? Masking makes it possible.

Why In-House Matters

Because we blast, mask and coat under one roof, tolerance-critical parts never get handed between shops. That means fewer surprises on manifolds, wheels and machined brackets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is masking in powder coating?

It's protecting areas that must stay bare — threads, bores, machined faces — so powder doesn't coat them during application and curing.

Can you keep threads and bores bare?

Yes — that's exactly what masking is for, so parts still thread and fit after coating.

Can you do two-tone powder coating?

Yes. Masking lets us coat selected areas in different colors, common on wheels and custom parts.

Will masking survive the oven?

Yes — we use high-temperature tape and plugs rated for the cure cycle.

Do you mask wheels?

Yes — bead seats, valve stems and faces can be masked for clean, two-tone results.

Does masking add to the cost?

Masking is billed at $3.50 per thread hole, with complex or selective masking quoted per part, and is included in your overall quote.

Can you mask machined or sealing surfaces?

Yes — bearing bores, sealing faces and mating surfaces are masked so they stay bare and true after coating.
