What affects lifespan

Surface prep (garnet blasting), coating thickness, the metal itself, and how often salt is rinsed off all matter. Parts that get a fresh-water rinse and mild cleaning last noticeably longer.

Those four factors are worth separating, because they fail in different ways:

• Prep. Blasting strips mill scale, rust and old coating, and leaves an anchor profile the powder can key into. A coat laid over a contaminated surface lifts from underneath no matter how good the powder is — which is why we treat sandblasting as part of the coating job, not an upsell.
• Film build. Powder is applied dry, then cured until it cross-links into one continuous film. That film is meaningfully thicker than a typical wet-paint coat, so there is simply more material standing between the salt and the metal.
• The metal underneath. Aluminum grows its own oxide layer and shrugs off coastal air better than bare steel. Steel needs the coating to stay intact, because any breach becomes the place rust starts.
• Exposure. A dock railing in salt spray works far harder than a bracket in a garage. Chloride deposits are hygroscopic — left on the surface, they keep pulling moisture against the part long after the spray has dried. Hardware that lives in that environment is marine powder coating work, and we spec it differently for that reason.

Rinsing is the one variable you control after the part leaves us, and it costs nothing. Plain fresh water and a non-abrasive cleaner, often enough to keep salt from sitting, does more for a coastal finish than any upgrade at the coating stage. Our care guide covers what to use and what to avoid.

Our honest take

We don't promise 10–15 years on the water — that isn't realistic here. We back workmanship for two years and give you care guidance so your finish lasts as long as possible.

Being specific about that: the warranty covers our workmanship — adhesion, coverage, cure. It does not cover coastal exposure itself, and it assumes the part gets non-abrasive cleaning. Anyone quoting a fixed year-count for salt-spray service is guessing, because the answer depends on the part, its position and how it is looked after.

If you want the longest realistic service life, the levers are the ones above: proper prep, the right substrate, and a rinse habit. We coat around 4,000 jobs a year across Sarasota and the surrounding coast, and the parts that hold up are consistently the ones that got rinsed.
